Kodiak Leadership Course
Kodiak is designed to be an adventure that pushes the boundaries of every participant, one that will encourage you to try new things that may be out of your comfort zone. Each participant was challenged with new activities and skills such as bike riding, realistic first aid, sailing, outdoor cooking, and whitewater rafting. Participants were split into clans of bears to signify the challenge with the intent of preparing for the future with servant leadership in mind.
Kodiak is grounded in experiential education; participants learn the skills of leadership and service to others as they took part in a trek of over 1,500 acres of pristine wilderness on the Cumberland Plateau at the Latimer High Adventure Reservation. Although it did rain during a vigorous hike and camping trek, participants rose to the challenge and each received their signature bear claws!
Boy Scouts and Venturers have completed this 6-day long trek of hiking, backpacking, rappelling, mountain biking, shooting sports, whitewater rafting, sailing, swimming, and so much more. Each participant and staff member has taken a valuable piece of leadership, service, and experience back home with them, surviving the Kodiak Challenge.
