District's Volunteer Recognition Banquet
At the District’s Volunteer Recognition Banquet, some awards were presented for the last time under the old Leader Recognition Programs. One of the new awards presented was the Unit Leader Award of Merit. The first three recipients of this award in our District were Ray McKelvy of Troop 275, Bill Gregory of Troop 210, and Jim Byers of Troop 1161. This award can be thought of in order of precedence as one before the District Pathfinder Award. Heather Sutherland, of Pack 180, and Kevin Line, of Pack 85, received the District Pathfinder award, which recognizes outstanding quality service within the unit. Amy Smith and Donnell Rhone were the 2012 District Award of Merit / Long Rifle Award recipients. This award is given to those who have given outstanding service and support at the district level for a minimum of three years. Amy has served as a Unit Commissioner and District Roundtable Commissioner. Donnell has served on the District Committee, as a Unit Commissioner, and is presently the District Commissioner.

The Dan Beard District went out in style for the 2012 year! Congratulations to every Scout & Scouter within the district for pulling their share to help the district earn the Journey To Excellence – Gold for 2012! The district reached over 100% of every finance goal it had - FOS, Popcorn Sales, & Camp Cards; served 999 Scouts – Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Varsity Scouts, Venturers, and Sea Scouts; had a retention rate of 67.7% (up from last year); up in membership for District Committee and District Commissioners; 65% Cub Scout Camping; 80% Boy Scout Camping; 3 new Units – Pack 616 at Cane Ridge Elementary, Crew 606 at Glencliff High School, and Team 37 Old Hickory Ward LDS. None of these achievements would have been possible without the efforts, dedication, and support of you, the volunteers.
